KIA NIRO CONCEPT
Kia has revealed its new Niro concept today, following the release of two teaser images earlier this month.
Bound for an unveiling at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show, the Niro hints at a new compact crossover that could soon arrive to take on Nissan's popular Juke.
Debuting a new evolution of Kia's now familiar styling language, the Niro features triangular headlights reaching up into the front guards, sitting above a set of fat arches and five-spoke sports wheels.
Kia's familiar 'tiger nose' grille dominates the face of the Niro concept, while a broad glasshouse highlights the crossover's three-door design.
Speaking of that glasshouse, Kia says it has utilised a world-first single-piece stainless steel roof for the Niro concept, sitting above a 'dihedral' scissor-like door design.
The cabin highlights the usual futuristic look we've come to expect from concepts, although there's a hint of production inspiration with the Rio hatch's toggle switches nested in the centre of the dash.
Kia says the Niro will preview "an innovative new powertrain", suggesting we could see an evolution of the 'Smart-4WD-Hybrid' system featured in the recentProvo hot-hatch concept.
In that show car, the Pro_Cee'd GT hatch's 150kW 1.6 litre turbo petrol engine drives the front wheels, while an electric motor sends an extra 33kW to the rear wheels when needed.
Will we see the Niro evolve into a roadgoing showroom model?
Kia isn't saying, although it has confirmed the concept's unveiling in Frankfurt will be used to gauge customer interest in a production model.
Watch for more details on the Niro at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show.
