What Is It?
The Ferrari 458 Speciale is a new high-performance version of the exotic Ferrari 458 Italia supercar. It includes several upgrades to the exterior, such as unique wheels, a body kit and a larger front grille. Inside, revisions are focused on saving weight: The car loses several of the luxury goodies in the high-end 458 Italia. But the biggest upgrades are under the skin, where the 458's 4.5-liter V8 is tuned to produce 596 horsepower -- up 34 hp from the standard 458. Between the extra power and a weight savings of around 500 pounds, the 458 Speciale can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just three seconds flat.
How Much?
Although official pricing isn't out yet, we expect the 458 Speciale to start around $260,000 or more.
When Can You Get It?
Summer 2014.

Ferrari's history of making lightweight, high-performance versions of its mid-engine models includes the 360 Challenge Stradale and 430 Scuderia, both of which were considered some of the best performance cars of their day. The Ferrari 458 Speciale looks to continue this tradition thanks to an all-out focus on performance and speed. But if you're interested, act quickly: Ferrari's sporty models have a way of selling out fast.
Other Cars to Consider
Lamborghini Gallardo -- The Gallardo and all its special editions may be dated compared to the 458, but it's hard to match a Lamborghini for in-your-face styling.
McLaren MP4-12C -- The MP4-12C doesn't offer a lightweight performance version, but the standard model is still compelling thanks to handsome looks and a dual-clutch transmission.
Ferrari 458 Italia -- The standard 458 Italia likely offers more than enough performance for most drivers.
Used Ferrari 430 Scuderia -- Those shocked by the 458 Speciale's pricing may prefer to check out a used 430 Scuderia, which boasts the same lightweight construction and all-out focus on performance.
